DIGITAL STOIC Practice notes

Manifesto · v0.1

Exposed to the narratives. Never seized by them.

Technology accelerates, and AI accelerates it again. Working with it is a cognitive discipline, not a productivity hack.

01 · The gap

Every output now arrives fluent, confident and finished, as if your assent came bundled with it. Between what strikes the mind and what you accept, there is a gap. That gap is the only part that is yours.

Impression A feed, a model output, a hype cycle.
The gap Judgment. What depends on you.
Assent Act on it, park it, or drop it.
§

Men are disturbed not by things, but by the views which they take of things.

02 · What depends on us

↑ Depends on you

  • Your assent
  • Where your attention goes
  • What you relay
  • The harness you build
  • The trace you leave behind a choice

↓ Doesn't

  • The model release cycle
  • The hype feed
  • A vendor's roadmap
  • How fluent an output sounds
  • What the market narrates this week

03 · Six commitments

01

Impression is not assent.

A confident answer is a proposal. Check it before it becomes yours.
02

Inform to act, not to feel.

What you cannot act on doesn't need to be followed in real time.
03

Emotion is a signal, not a command.

Read it. Don't obey it.
04

Baseline first, then the tool.

Know how you think without the model before you measure what it adds.
05

Agentic without agency is automation.

Delegate the execution. Keep the intent, the gates and the challenge.
06

Don't plead. Publish.

Show the work. Let it be loud so you don't have to be.

04 · In practice

The practice ships as open tools. First out: stint, a Claude Code plugin that runs agent sessions in stints and pits before the context redline. More will follow on GitHub.
